A note on Transition from RFC Co-Founder David Schwartz

on July 10, 2017

Friends,

I've got some big news: at the end of this summer, I’ll be leaving my staff role at Real Food Challenge.

It’s been ten incredible years — helping develop, design, launch and lead Real Food Challenge. I’ve learned so much about food injustice, organizing and myself. And I’ve learned so much from this inspiring community of staff and young leaders, as well as from our powerful partners.

It is very bittersweet to step away from Real Food Challenge at this time. The organization is strong and totally leader-ful, so I feel proud and grateful to know that our work will continue to be led with powerful strategic vision and heart by Estefania, Nina, Anim, Katie, Tlaloc, Amanda and the rest of the gang. At the same time, RFC is just finishing up a period of strategic planning and is soon to roll out some new campaigns and programs that I’m very excited about! While I won’t be leading us in this new phase of work, I will be an enthusiastic cheerleader, advisor and donor.

In the coming year, I’ll be taking a bit of a break from organizational leadership, growing more food in my garden, doing a few consulting gigs, spending time with my baby niece and also spending a semester as the Social Entrepreneur in Residence at Brown University (in Spring 2018). I’m looking forward to a period of reflection and renewal — and very much hope to stay in touch.

My last official day will be August 1st. After that, please contact me at david.is.schwartz@gmail.com or 401-601-5545.

Also, if you’re in the Boston area, or able to be on July 27th, I’d love for you to come to a send off barbecue we’ll be having on the urban farm where I got my start! You can see the Facebook event; and also please RSVP directly.

All the best,

David
