Missoula, MT— On Sunday, October 12, University of Montana students and staff came together in celebration of food, farming, and the people behind them.
Set at the urban, organic P.E.A.S. Farm (Program in Ecological Agriculture and Society), Students for Real Food hosted a public feast to pay respect and give thanks to the University Dining Service (UDS) employees for their hard work and dedication towards a local food University. Since its inception in 2003, the UDS Farm to College program has re-circulated over $2 million back into local and regional economies.
That morning, several cooking crews met in student kitchens to prepare the Farm to College menu all made from the freshest local, organic ingredients. As the afternoon sun warmed the crowd of participants, a local bluegrass band serenaded the volunteers and dining service workers in a concert after dinner. Whether a climate activist, social and economic justice activist, or just a lover of local culture, people were left with a feeling of cooperation and community, all due to the power of real food.
