Join the RFC Team!

The Real Food Challenge is a youth-driven initiative.  College and high school students and other youth activists run the whole show from the grassroots organizing to the national coordination. We are looking for inspired, motivated, and imaginative individuals to join the effort and help us shape the future of this young movement. As an organization we strive to be transparent and accountable to our base and work actively to dismantle all forms of oppression in our structures and relationships. Working with the Real Food Chalenge is a great leadership development experience--learn from experienced young organizers and flex your muscles!

**Applications for the Real Food Challenge National Team and Internships accepted on a rolling basis.**

Ways to be involved:

Organizing Locally:  First and foremost, take action in your community.  Get together with your peers to take The Challenge and demand 20% Real Food by 2020 from your school food service provider; take a stand against exploitation in the food system with our solidarity campaigns; or come up with your own local real food solutions!  There’s lots to do, and the Real Food Challenge is here to support you all the way through.

Regional Field Organizers:  Regional Field Organizers (RFOs) are responsible for supporting local student leaders and RFC campaigns, increasing RFC visibility and student participation, building key relationships with regional partners, and planning annual regional summits. It is a volunteer position, with a stipend of $500-$1,000. To apply, please fill out the application, and send a resume and cover letter to David@realfoodchallenge.org, by April 1. Read more about our current RFOs.

The Steering Committee:  The Steering Committee (SC) is the governing body of the Real Food Challenge. It’s responsible for making the big-picture decisions.  Twenty people strong, it is comprised of representatives from our partner organizations, the national RFC coordinating team, regional leaders, RFC alumni and other student representatives.  The SC is a majority-student body and convenes every two months. Read more about current Steering Committee members,

The Administrative Team: A subset of the Steering Committee, the “A-team” is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Challenge, including campaign planning, resource development, e-organizing, and supporting Challenge Field Organizers.  Many A-team members work remotely and keep coordinated through weekly conference calls and other frequent communications.  A-team members are expected to contribute at least 7-10 hours of work a week.  Read more about current Administrative Team members,

Internships: Internships are project-based and last one semester/trimester or an entire summer.  Current internship projects available include food systems and policy research, design and multimedia work, and relevant event-planning and outreach.  We’re also open to crafting an internship specifically tailored to your skills or passions. These are unpaid positions. To apply, download this document and follow the instructions within.

Partner Organizations: The Challenge also serves as common ground for a diverse group of movement organizations.  We seek to facilitate new collaborations between existing groups as we grow student involvement and rally youth around the Challenge’s core goals and framework. If you would like to discuss a partnership, please contact Anim Steel at asteel@thefoodproject.org.

Donors:  Anyone can be a donor!  As a grassroots organization, the Real Food Challenge can’t afford to rely on major foundations or corporations to fund the movement.  We need you--every dollar counts! DONATE NOW.
