Go Live, an initiative of Our Power of One whose mission is to obliterate poverty through the harnessing of creative energy and buying power of communities, and The Real Food Challenge are teaming up to launch a mass public education campaign and musical tour around real food. The goal is to put food issues on everyone’s radar, including major politicians. With public service announcements, music to inspire, and a directed political action, we will show people that the food movement is demanding serious change. Every person and institution from the corner store to the White House, from a mother in the middle of the country to the urban teenager on the coast of California, will be empowered to take back control of the food system. To that end, we everyone to move the conversation from the educated few to the poorly informed many!

Music is a great way to reach a wide, diverse audience, so we are using concerts as a tool to spread the message and unite people around food. We will begin a concert tour in January and continue through July, when it will culminate with a big national concert.

Right now we are looking to book tour dates at universities. You like good live music! We got some great talent! Your school or organizing body can book a concert featuring Jennifer Johns (and other indie talent to be announced as they are secured) and/or a workshop/lecture surrounding food and its multifaceted effects on communities. 100% of the proceeds will go towards the campaign and the concert in July.

Events will run from January-June, leading up to the big concert on July 4th.

Fees
Booking fees start at $5,000. Reduced prices are available if multiple shows can be played in the same city at different venues. We also encourage you to find others in your area who want to host a concert and approach us collectively to cut costs.

Artists-- Jennifer Johns Profile

"Vacillating between Hip-Hop, R&B, Soul, Electronica, Funk, Reggae, World and every kind of rhythm in between, sultry voiced Jennifer Johns crafts stirring tunes that are both heart-rending and head-bobbing. The Oakland, California music powerhouse proved that she is in fact  "well on her way to establishing herself as one of hip-hop soul's elite." Chicago Tribune

"Her warm seductive vocals ...intelligent songwriting over heavy beats and rhythms make her sound intoxicating. Check the ambient electro soul of "Chasing the Sun," the synthesized '80s feel of "Wanting for Love" and the body moving drum and base of "Get It up" – it's evident why she's been able to open for the likes of Lauryn Hill, Common, Mos Def and The Roots." Heart & Soul Magazine

An exceptionally graceful artist, Johns got her start by hitting high notes in the church and school choirs, but it was her experience performing with the multi-culti Oakland Youth Chorus, where she received her comprehensive training. She says it was performing alongside the likes of Roberta Flack, Peabo Bryson, Melissa Manchester, James Ingram, and Nancy Wilson to name a few was what gave her the confidence to pursue a career in music. "What I loved the most about OYC was the diversity in the repitoire.  We sang in a million different languages in a million different styles.  I loved it!!"

The standout songstress has toured with and opened shows for some of the most respected names in the industry including Lauryn Hill, Black Eyed Peas, Mos Def, Common, KRS-1, Les Nubian, Blackalicious, Zap Mama, Res, Capelton, Junior Reid, Shaggy, Slum Village, Bebel Gilberto, Sean Kingston, Talib Kweli and Black Thought of The Roots, to name a few. Johns music abounds with experiences that are both familiar and inspiring, which is an instant reminder of her hit-making prowess. In addition to amplifying her voice for the masses, Johns also lends her time to a variety of community based organizations, namely after-school music programs. Jennifer is a Green For All Fellow and has decided to make a part of her life's work to bring information about sustainable living to urban and historically oppressed communities in the Unites States and world though an organization she founded call Our Power of One.

"In the same vein as Eryka Badu, Lauryn Hill and Jill Scott, but with her own style, spoken word artist and soulful singer Jennifer Johns impresses on this release. Overtop a range of electric beats and sonic breaks mainly provided by Spontaneous, atmospheric additions from live instruments and R&B vocals are well produced to create an alternative for the more popular sounds of the Neptunes and the like. Johns comes off easily appealing with provocative production and a sexy delivery of her voice." Impact Press
